Privacy

Nepali Nexus is a community app for Nepali people in the USA. We collect as little as we can, we do not sell or share your personal information, and some things we never ask for at all.

What we collect

  • Sign-in details: your name and email address from the account you sign in with (Google, Apple, Facebook or a one-time email code). Clerk, our sign-in provider, holds these; our own database does not store your sign-in email.
  • Your profile: your display name, your home district in Nepal (self-declared), your state, metro and neighbourhood, what you are here for, the languages you speak, your app language and, if you choose to say, your generation (first or second). Your time zone comes from your metro. We also note when you confirmed you are 18 or older; never your age or birth date.
  • What you post and send: Boards questions, answers and translations; room listings and their photos; roles you post; referral requests, with your note and a CV link or PDF; mentor offers, mentorship requests and your private session notes; messages; reports and appeals; campus chapters you join; events you save; roles you save, with the application status, dates and notes you keep (only you see them); and invites you create or use.
  • What you ask Sathi, our AI guide, so it can answer you.
  • Settings and devices: your privacy settings, notification choices and quiet hours, and, only if you switch push notifications on, a push address for each device.
  • How you found us: one first-party cookie records where you arrived from (for example an invite link) and the page you landed on, for 30 days. If you install the app, we note which kind of device.
  • Safety records: when our moderation acts on your account or content, we keep a record of what happened and why.
  • ID check, only if you ask for one: Stripe checks a photo of your government ID and a selfie. We keep only the result (passed or not, which checks ran, and Stripe's reference for the check), never your ID, its number, your date of birth or the photos. A founder decides whether the “ID verified” badge shows.

Rooms: a live listing and its photos are public. Photos have their location data removed when you upload them. Referral requests: your note and CV go only to the referrer you ask.

What we never collect

There is no field for these anywhere in Nepali Nexus, and we will not ask for them:

  • Immigration, legal or visa status
  • Social Security number
  • Passport or other government ID numbers, or copies of your ID (the optional ID check stays with Stripe)
  • Bank or card details
  • Your street address

Please do not post any of these, about yourself or anyone else. Immigration, visa and legal-status topics are out of scope everywhere in Nepali Nexus: posts, listings and events about them are removed with a plain notice, and Sathi does not answer those questions.

How we use it

  • To run your account and show you people, events, rooms, roles and help in your area.
  • To suggest mentors, referrers and chapters that fit what you are here for.
  • To answer your Sathi questions and translate Boards posts when you ask.
  • To keep the community safe: screening posts and listings for scams and rule breaks, and handling reports and appeals.
  • To count, in totals only, how the community is growing in each area.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it for advertising, we show no ads, and we use no third-party advertising or analytics trackers.

Who processes it for us

  • Clerk runs sign-in and holds your email address and sign-in accounts.
  • Neon hosts our database and stores uploaded photos and CVs in private storage.
  • Anthropic provides the AI behind Sathi, translations and the screening of posts. We send it only the text needed for each request.
  • Stripe (Stripe Identity) runs the optional ID check: it sees the photo of your ID and your selfie, and tells us only the result. We send it nothing but a reference number for your account. After a founder decides, and if you delete your account, we ask Stripe to delete what it collected.
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS), our hosting provider, runs the website and app on its servers in the United States.
  • Your browser's push service (for example Google's, Apple's or Mozilla's) delivers push notifications if you switch them on. Each notification carries only a reference number, never your messages or other content.

Each processes data only to provide its service to us. Other members see what you post and what your privacy settings allow; we never show a street address, because we never collect one.

Moderation and appeals

Our operations agents (AI, working under rules we set) screen posts, listings and reports. They can hold or remove clear breaks of the community rules, and every action is logged with a reason. Serious cases, such as permanent bans, threats, harassment, sharing private details or anything involving a minor, are prepared by an agent and decided by a founder. If we remove your content or restrict your account, we tell you why, and you can appeal: a founder, never the agent that acted, decides.

How long we keep it

  • Your account and profile: until you delete your account. Then your profile and personal data are removed within 30 days (proposed).
  • Boards questions and answers: kept after you delete your account so conversations still make sense, with your name taken off them.
  • Messages you sent: removed when your account is deleted.
  • Sathi questions: no more than 30 days (proposed). You can delete your Sathi history at any time from your profile.
  • CVs: deleted 90 days after the referrer decides (kept while the request is waiting).
  • Room photos: deleted 30 days after the listing closes. The listing itself is kept without your details, for area totals.
  • Uploads you never used on a listing or request: deleted after 24 hours.
  • Moderation records and appeals: 2 years (proposed), for appeals and quality review. If you delete your account, the quoted text is removed from them.
  • ID check result: until you delete your account. Stripe is asked to delete your ID photos and details once a founder has decided.
  • Abuse-prevention counters: a one-way code, never your name or address, kept from a few minutes to a day.

Your rights and how to use them

Wherever you live in the USA, you can use these rights. California residents have them under the CCPA/CPRA, and other states have similar laws.

  • Know and get a copy. Signed in, open your profile and choose Download your data. You get a file with your profile, your posts, replies, translations, listings, requests, mentorships, the messages you sent and a list of your uploaded files with download links. What it leaves out, and why, is listed in the file.
  • Correct. Edit your profile and privacy settings from your profile page; edit your Boards posts, room listings and mentor offer where you made them; change your sign-in email in your account settings. Some things cannot be edited once sent (messages, referral requests, roles, translations, reports and appeals): withdraw them where you can, or email [CONTACT EMAIL] and we will correct them.
  • Delete. Delete your account from your profile at any time (see “How long we keep it”).
  • Opt out of sale or sharing. There is nothing to opt out of: we do not sell or share personal information. We honour the Global Privacy Control signal. See Your privacy choices.
  • No different treatment. We will not treat you differently for using any of these rights.

You can also make any request by emailing [CONTACT EMAIL] from the email you sign in with, so we know it is you.

Your privacy choices

We do not sell or share your personal information, and we honour the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal from your browser. Read more on Your privacy choices.

Text messages

We do not send text messages, there is no phone sign-in, and we do not ask for your phone number. If we ever add texts, we will ask for your consent first and every text will tell you how to stop them.

Age

You must be 18 or older to use Nepali Nexus. Everyone confirms this when they save their profile; we keep only when you confirmed, never your age or birth date. If you tell us you are under 18, we make no profile and keep no record that you said so. We never knowingly hold data about anyone under 18, and so none about children under 13. If you believe someone under 18 has an account, tell us and we will delete it.

Changes and contact

If we change this notice in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. Questions: [CONTACT EMAIL].
