NepaliNexusBot

NepaliNexusBot is the program Nepali Nexus uses to read public event listings, so Nepali people in the USA can find community events near them. If you saw it in your server logs, this page explains what it does and how to stop it.

How it identifies itself

Every request it makes sends this user agent:

NepaliNexusBot/0.1 (+https://www.nepalinexus.com/bot)

Which sites it fetches

Only sites a Nepali Nexus founder has approved, and only after a person has read the site's terms of use and its robots.txt and found that listing event facts with a link back is allowed. It does not crawl the web, follow links to other sites or search for new ones. It fetches only the listing pages of each approved site, over HTTPS, and only from that site's own host names.

Today it fetches no sites. None has been approved yet. This page will list each one when it is.

What it keeps

Facts only: an event's title, its date and time, the venue, the city, the price, and the link to the event on your site. Not your descriptions, not your images, and nothing else from the page. A listing without a link back to your site is dropped.

Every event we show names its source and links to your page for the details and tickets. Each listing is checked before it appears on Nepali Nexus.

robots.txt

It reads your robots.txt before fetching anything, once per site on every run, and obeys it. If your robots.txt has a group for NepaliNexusBot, it follows that group; otherwise it follows the * group. If robots.txt cannot be read because of a server error or a timeout, it fetches nothing from your site on that run. A robots.txt that is not there (a 4xx response) means no rules, as the robots.txt standard (RFC 9309) says.

To keep it off your whole site:

User-agent: NepaliNexusBot
Disallow: /

The change applies from its next run.

How often it comes

  • At most twice a day per site, and never within 6 hours of its last run there.
  • Each request gives up after 15 seconds and stops reading after 5 MB.
  • It follows at most 3 redirects, and only to the same approved host names.

Ask us to stop

Within 24 hours of your request we stop fetching your site and take its events off Nepali Nexus. Bringing a site back would need your permission and a new review.
